I very rarely cry. This book made me heave with sobs. On an airplane. In public. It’s that good. Movie: did not make me cry in public. That’s all I will say.

The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman
My personal affection for Mr. LaBeouf aside, I believe this may be the performance of his, and Evan Rachel Wood’s, career. It’s the grittiest love story I’ve ever seen. Aaaaand Ron’s in it. So there’s that.

The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson
Hilarious; scandalous and hopeful. The movie is on Canadian Netflix right now. It adheres pretty closely to the book, but it is decidedly less awesome than the book. Watch it only if you want to read subtitles for 85% of the movie.
