  • Lord of the Flies by Sir William Golding

Hated it in high school. Loved it in university. Movie was decent. Simpson’s adaptation was awesome.

  • The Scent of Rain and Lightning by Nancy Pickard

Unbalanced. The entire novel was spent leading up to an ending that was wrapped up far too quickly and neatly.

  • Miss Wyoming by Douglas Coupland

Not my favourite, but still quite good. Like Girlfriend in a Coma, it’s an odd love story.

  • The Virgin Cure by Ami McKay

Brilliant. Disgusting and astonishing that it’s based on historical facts.

  • Still Life with Woodpecker by Tom Robbins

Too many tangents, but the relevant story line is actually quite good.

  • Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen

Book: Very charming. A fabulous tale of love, distrust, enchantment and a whiskey loving circus elephant. Beautifully written. Movie: Meh

  • Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

I know that the ending makes the most sense for the trilogy. I know that! Geez. Doesn’t mean I have to like it.

  • The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Brilliant, really. A thrilling and desperate melange of The Lord of the Flies, Gladiator, and Survivor. Couldn’t put it down.
