Little Bee by Chris Cleave
Eye-opening. Fictional account based on true events. Impressive that a man can write two fully-developed, extremely different women so successfully.
-
The Birth House by Ami McKay
Refreshing, interesting, ludicrous, shocking and very good. Recommended.
-
The Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom
This book is good. Really good. Read it now and thank me later.
-
Girlfriend in a Coma by Douglas Coupland
A rebirth of thought, action, regret, love and questioning in a world of technology and casual acceptance. Strange, but brilliant.
-
The Gum Thief by Douglas Coupland
A novel about dialogue wherein no conversation is ever held. Genius.
-
Secret Daughter by Shilpi Somaya Gowda
Exploration of the love and bonds between mothers and daughters the world over, spanning continents, countries, cultures, ethnicities, adoption and biology
-
Sizzling Sixteen by Janet Evanovich
Grandma Mazur is my favourite. Edit: I’ve read every Stephanie Plum book because they’re hilarious and a great way to pass two hours. I’ve also read her Wicked series and Barnaby & Hooker series. I recommend them all.

Ella Minnow Pea by Mark Dunn
Adorable and intellectual, silly and challenging. Probably not for people who aren’t intrigued by language.
