  • Suicide Squad

Ooof. This one hurt a little. I thought the reviews might be lying. Or, at the very least, a little harsh. They were not. Watch it for Harley Quinn if you must (she is responsible for approximately three additional funny moments that weren’t in the trailers), but don’t say I didn’t warn you.

  • Ghostbusters

You know what this movie does? It makes you laugh. Melissa McCarthy puts on some ridiculous head gear, you grin and blow air through your nostrils a little harder than usual. Kristin Wiig gets slimed by ghost after ghost, you gag, and you chuckle. Leslie Jones opens her mouth, you try unsuccessfully to commit her lines to…

  • Koa Beck is smart

I want to share an article with you. It was written by Koa Beck and published in The Atlantic on December 31, 2015. I was directed to it for work reasons earlier this spring and have read it several times since. I think I learn something new every time. So now it’s your turn. Let me…

  • Colour me impressed

Anson Mount is one talented mister. First, he was a convincing lead in a Britney Spears movie that cast Zoe Saldana in a supporting role (honestly, this speaks volumes). Then, he played the hell out of Cullen Bohannon, a bad-tempered, slick-shooting, slightly murderous (but gruffly loveable) railroad man, and successfully pulled off shoulder-length grey locks both on…

  • Without a Fight by Brad Paisley

I’m a country girl at heart, which obviously means that I love country music. I’ve always been a fan of Brad Paisley, and I especially love when he teams up with powerhouse talent. So, since you’re a smart cookie, you’re probably already picking up what I’m putting down. But Imma say it loud and clear: I dig…

  • 13 Ways of Looking at a Fat Girl by Mona Awad

In just 214 pages and 13 stand-alone stories, debut author Mona Awad has won my undying respect. And because I can’t do this marvellous little book enough justice with a short and snappy “review”, I’m going to share one from the Globe and Mail instead: “It wouldn’t be far off to say that reading Mona Awad’s 13…

  • Central Intelligence

“Then I realized high school was nothing like Sixteen Candles, and I’ll never be like Molly Ringwald.” The Rock said that. Wearing a unicorn shirt, jorts, and a leather fanny pack. I’m a certified, card-carrying Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson fan, Kevin Hart is a child-sized party, and the tag line for this movie (Saving the world…

  • The Legend of Tarzan

“A CGI masterpiece.” —Tori Elliott Other, less sarcastic, thoughts: Margot Robbie was wonderful in her role as Jane, the Damsel in Distress who refuses to act like a Damsel in Distress. I’m not sure when Samuel L. Jackson became a comic relief actor, but I’m glad he was cast in this movie as such. The film’s…

  • Shameless publicist move

Hello, adoring fans, I have so many things to tell you. I’ve finished reading books (but not nearly as many as I should have by now—Rosie is beating the pants off of me in our challenge), I’ve watched several movies (TARZAN!!!!!!), I’ve attended my graduation, I’ve travelled ACROSS THE WORLD, some of my best friends…

  • You’re doing it wrong, Googler

Entertainingly enough, one of the most common Google searches that bring people to my site is “Chicago Med Tori”. Until now, there were two reasons for which a misguided Googler might arrive here using those terms: I posted a very short note about Chicago P.D. (Which is also created by Dick Wolf and exists in the same TV universe as…
